In a proud moment for Nagaland cricket, three talented players Mr. Jonathan Rongsen, Mr. Sedezhalie Rupreo, and Mr. Hem Bahadur Chetri have been selected to represent the NorthEast Zone in the prestigious Duleep Trophy 2025-26. Additionally, Mr. Mowalong Kichu will accompany the team as the Team Physio, ensuring the squad remains in peak condition throughout the tournament.
The Duleep Trophy, established in 1961-62, is one of India’s most esteemed premiere domestic first-class competitions, featuring zonal teams from across the country. However, The NorthEast Zone was introduced only in the 2018-19 season to foster cricket talent in the northeastern states, and this year’s squad continues to showcase the region’s growing prowess in the sport.
Mr. Jonathan Rongsen, A seasoned campaigner will lead the Northeast Zone as Captain and this will be his third appearance in the Duleep Trophy, bringing leadership and experience to the team.
While Mr. Sedezhalie Rupreo, A promising talent is set to make his debut for the NorthEast Zone alongside him Mr. Hem Bahadur Chettri is Another debutant, ready to make his mark on the national stage.
The 2025-26 Duleep Trophy will feature six zonal teams;
- North Zone
- South Zone
- East Zone
- West Zone
- Central Zone
- NorthEast Zone
The tournament will follow a group-cum-knockout format, with the NorthEast Zone aiming to make a strong impression against India’s traditional cricketing powerhouses and to uphold its prestige and ensure the highest quality of competition the BCCI has detailed all the Zonal Convenors to ensure that all India players who are currently available be picked and are selected for their respective Zonal Teams.
